Give us 5 Books. We give you 5 new sales channels!

Meeting Request: London International Book Fair

Attention Publishers:
Give us five books and we will give you five new sales channels in 30 days.

kait211) We are connected with over fifty new and emerging major platforms and distribution outlets in Asia, Latin America, North America, Europe, India. We have contracts with POD, mobile, and ebook distribution platforms that even Ingram doesn’t reach.

2) We have direct access into buyers and publishing partners in mainland China. We have both the approval process partners and the retail partners for both STM and general trade books, POD books and ebooks.

3) Our distribution agreement is commission only and non-exclusive. We can have your work in 3-5 new channels within 30 days of receiving your files and metadata at no cost to you.

Subject to certain restrictions, one of the channels we will give you is into mainland China.

Sorry, we are not distributing anything “non-digital” such as board books or CD books or non-book items.

Let us show you how simple Global Distribution can be. Give us five files as a test and we will give you five new global distribution channels within 30 days.

Content Owners NEED Content Buyers. Content Buyers Need Content Owners, so what’s the problem and why do you need us?

Content owners typically don’t have the staff and budget to go through the process of finding and contracting with emerging sales platforms in China, India, Korea, and most of Asia.

Content buyers, those seeking content for acquisition, want more content but don’t know where to find it or can’t travel to get to it. Content buyers are usually content aggregators, online e-retailers, or distribution channels, that have their hands full just managing the technology of their platform. In many cases they are not from the publishing industry. They need publishing aggregators to help them continuously find new, fresh, quality content in any language.

Simply put content buyers and content sellers are not able to connect because of the time and expense of travel and the “new” rapidly changing nature of the digital distribution world.

Our company understands both sides of the equation. We can identify with the problems the content sellers have as well as the problems the content buyers have. We have the knowledge and solutions to these problems because we went through them as both a publisher (content seller) and an aggregator (content buyer/distributor). For example, one company we own has published 5000 books to date and produces 100 new titles each month. That company needed more distribution and so we built a global distribution network for ourselves and now we can offer that network to you.

How can we promise you “5 books to 5 new channels in 30 days”? Because we already have Content Buyer channels contracted and we understand and comply with their metadata requests and processes for file management. The channels like dealing with us because they know that our team makes it easy for them to add content and that they don’t have to train every new publisher that they meet. So, all we have to do is to get your metadata and match your content to what they channels want and voila! your books are now for sale in completely new channels and new countries.

PODG at Taiwan and New Delhi Book Fairs

Executive Summary:

We have just returned from the Taiwan and Delhi Book Fairs.  We have bookstores now carrying our books and we have POD partnerships in both countries for selling our authors’ work.  Our business task is to “keep showing up”.   Here are some pictures and notes about the trip.

We have an entire shelf at this bookstore to sell our books. We believe this will continue to expand.  The store is a ‘new concept’ store. It is the lower floor of a children’s educational school. The parents hang out down below, drink coffee and tea, and buy things while waiting on their kids to finish classes.

Korea > Beijing > Anhui (Hefei)

January 2013 – Korea > Beijing > Anhui (Hefei)

Executive Summary:  Our POD books are being loaded by the number one bookstore in Korea, Kyobo.  We have partnered with the top POD printer in Korea for fulfilling POD orders throughout the region.  In China we have expanded our relationships with the Anhui Publishing Group and their ebook platform TimeEbo will be carrying our ebooks in the next quarter.  Business continues to grow for PODG in Asia.  Below you will find updates and pictures from my current trip to Korea and China.  Next week we go to Taiwan and India.

This is a five book set that is incredibly large and expensive in book form.
Here is Robert Fletcher and his “bodyguards” from Anhui, Harriett and Monica.  On my first visit to Anhui they were worried that I would get kidnapped, smile.  We call Monica my ‘bodyguard’ as she is wearing heels in this picture!

If you are a reader of this blog, by now you know that food is a big part of business in Asia.  And while I have eaten fish from their on-premise tanks, this is the first time that they have brought us the fish in a net to confirm!

Food is a big part of business in Asia

Voila!  (As a true foodie, I think the food in China is the best in the world, and I use Boca Raton as my reference point).

Best food in the world

Eating in Korea is unique, wonderful, and quite different than China.  I call this picture, “death by 1000 dishes”.

Death by 1000 dishes

We are very proud to announce that our books are being printed POD in Korea by KSI now.  Mr. Kim is an incredible partner to work with.  The south Koreans are truly amazingly wonderful people and partners.  We are also excited about the fact that our authors that live in Korea are going to have a very nice platform to work with for signings and presentations.

And we conclude this post with a picture showing how nicely Publish On Demand Global is received in China.  This picture is taken at CEPIEC, a $1BB company under the Ministry of Education.

Once again, a big thanks to our authors and partners who make all this possible. We work for you!

India versus China

We are working in both markets. In terms of making money, China wins hands down for two reasons:

1) centralized government purchasing. For example, if our school program is a hit, then that’s 5 million buyers with a stroke of a pen. That will never happen in India. (and that is just one province in China).

2) I can’t seem to get India businessmen to commit. It might just be me of course. Interestingly, in India, the publishing businesses are typically third generation and there is no driving force to do things differently. I have had a 45 year old, third generation CEO look at me and say, “we have been publishing for 50 years and now, I have to change things, and I really like what you are saying”.. and then it goes nowhere. Whereas in China, which I think of as one gigantic corporation, if you can give a “manager” something that will make him look good in the eyes of his boss, and help him advance his career, he is all for it and gets it done.

That’s my $0.02! I am off to China where we are beta testing the first true end-to-end POD system that is government sanctioned and HP enabled. Yee ha!
